Stop Press
A vacany has opened for a new Web Site editor, as Mike Davies has stood down. Please refer to Mike, or to a member of Committee if you would like to involve yourself in this situation. It allows you to have your say, whilst helping the club through, what are now, trying times.
CATSHILL and DISTRICT WORKING MENS CLUB aka CATSHILL SOCIAL CLUB, is, in essence, a NON - PROFIT making organisation and is mindful of its responsibilities to the people of the Catshill area, and the people in the surrounding area`s. It is our intention to provide facilities for all local people, whatever their ethnic, religous or their physical conditions. We take total pride, at all times, in caring for all our visitors at all times, so much so that registered charities can use our Concert Room WITHOUT CHARGE for their own charity nights. If ANY organisation wishes to avail themselves of any of our facilities, please contact a member of the Committee. Leave the rest to us. Let us show you just how much we do care.

A Club for all the family to enjoy

The original site of Catshill and District Working Mens Club, now referred to as Catshill Social Club, opened on the 14th December 1901. The subs`, then, were just 4d per month, that, today, would be 1.5 p m, being 18 pence p.a.
Entry to the site, where residents could use the reading room and buy themselves both tea and coffee was on the first floor, and entry was gained by use of rickety wooden stairs. Those stairs were still in use many years later, up to the late 1950`s. The original building was, in fact, owned by Eliza Tinsley who owned, on her husbands death, the nail making company. Eliza stepped in and, unusual for a woman those days, ran the company, and re-sited to near Stourbridge many years later, so........

A Family Club Where Everyone is Welcome

We also strongly encourage families to use the Club facilities and make everyone welcome. We regularly stage events aimed at families throughout the year as we consider these children to be the future of the Club.

Concert Room Can be hired by YOU!

The room can seat 176 people whilst retaining a cosy and a relaxed atmosphere. Just phone on 01527 833227

Our Facilities

Enter the foyer, and left is the Concert Room.
This room, known as the Mick Harris Concert Room is open throughout the weekend. It is so called in memory of a local man, Mick Harris, who served the club so well for well over thirty years. Nothing was too much trouble, and, thanks to his guidance the club became very popular not just with the locals but with people from all over the Midlands.
This room is served by a long friendly bar and on a Saturday evening ALWAYS has live music. Members and their guests are able to dance the night away whilst enjoying a large range of drinks.
As well as the entertainment, a weekly raffle, and a Members Open the Box where prize money ranging from £100 to several hundred can be won. Its has been known to exceed £2,000 . The Ladies Support Group also take Football cards round the club so members can win money from those.

Private Functions

The Mick Harris Concert Room can be hired, by members AND non - members at very reasonable prices for private functions, ie Weddings / Anniveraries and sadly Wakes etc. Details are on this web site.
We are very mindful that the average age of our membership is, well, careful here, in excess of thirty five years. Therefore we need to address the
younger people locally, say, under 30 years as soon as possible. We really do need to appeal to the younger people.
One suggestion is that we start an X-B0x Club. If anyone out there has any thoughts on this can they contact us as soon as possible
Or maybe a regular disco for the under 30`s or should that be 25`s ?.
Why should the youth of Catshill have to travel into town, or further afield when we have all these facilities for such events right here, closer to home. Just think, no taxi fares, no struggling in bad weather to enjoy your type of music with your mates.
Contact us, you will find us very receptive to any ideas the younger members might have.

Would you like to hire our Concert Room ? Now available to non - members !
